SLA is divided into six divisions, each of which follows our interdisciplinary, project-based learning philosophy. Our Early Childhood Annex, located in Carroll Gardens, serves children ages 2 to 4 years. Our Preschool Explorers, Elementary grades, and Middle School programs are located at our main campus in Downtown Brooklyn. The Lower School encompasses Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade 1. Elementary goes from Grades 2 to 5, and our Middle School covers grades 6 through 8.
In addition to our school-day programs, we are pleased to offer adult evening classes, after school enrichment, and camps for school-aged children that follow SLA’s unique philosophy and approach.
Early Childhood Annex
Ages 2–4 (Carroll Gardens) Children play, learn, and grow in a science- and art-filled French or Mandarin immersion setting. Through hands-on projects, music, number games, and daily exploration, children absorb the target language. Learn more about our nurturing and exciting Annex program here.
SLA Explorers Preschool
Ages 3–4, Main Campus (Downtown Brooklyn) Children play, learn, and grow in a science- and art-filled bilingual setting. Through hands-on projects, music, number games, and daily exploration, children absorb the target language. Programs in English, French, Mandarin, Korean, and Spanish.
Elementary School
In our Elementary School, academics are conveyed through intensive interdisciplinary projects and small-group work. Children learn to read, and practice math, in both languages. As they get older, small-group work enables teachers to work in greater depth with students and support their progress more intensively. Teachers guide children in explorations and experiments, preparing students to be lifelong learners. IB Middle School
The International Baccalaureate framework integrates with SLA’s rich and rigorous curriculum, providing the structure for students to continue growing into strong mathematicians and scientists, powerful writers, and fluent speakers of a second language (English, French, Spanish, and Mandarin tracks).
Enrichment
Our enrichment programs offer options for all-ages including baby & toddlers to middle school students. Playgroups and circle time programs introduce thematic vocabulary through movement, games, and musical play and are led by experienced native speakers. Elementary and Middle School Enrichment provides fun and engaging activities for all language learners! Programs are offered in French, Mandarin, Italian, Spanish and English!
Adult Programs
Our language classes for adults are taught by experienced professionals and offer lots of opportunity to speak and use the target language. Beginning foreign language classes focus on getting students talking right away, building vocabulary as well as basic grammar and functional language in context. Classes are offered in Mandarin, French, Korean and Italian.
