At Science, Language & Arts International School, learning does not stop once the school day is over. We host a wide range of Enrichment, After-School Care, and Tutoring options for children. All of our after-school activities align with our distinct academic philosophy.

After-school activities are offered for three separate terms each school year (Fall, Winter, and Spring).

Check out our expanded catalogue of after-school programming at our new home at 9 Hanover Place in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn.  With our new standalone building, we are continuing to offer our own stellar programming as well as access to some of the best after-school enrichment activities in New York City.

In Capoeira Kids classes, children are animated, graceful and expressive in a safe and playful environment. Focusing on Capoeira movements, the classes encourage physical development, motor coordination, and peer interaction. Many of these movements have Portuguese names, so it is also an excellent tool for learning a new language!

Children explore creativity in this fun, artistic class as they hand build monsters, fairies, animals, backdrops and all sorts of creatures to create their own amazing Clay World! Children explore different techniques, including pointillism, spreads, and textured clay, and improve fine motor skills, artistic capabilities, and creative self-expression.

Children choose recyclables such as plastic bottles, cardboard, and paper to create projects like robots, amusement park rides, and sea creatures that, when combined with simple technologies such as littleBits or other small electronics, can come to life and light up, twist, turn, buzz, blink and shake! Through the process of designing and building, children experience the practical and cultural possibilities of new inventions! Note: only the recyclable portion of the projects are taken home.

By combining simple machine principles, children create more complex inventions using wheel-and-axles, pulleys, inclined planes and more! In our spring nature and gardening class, we explore Brooklyn’s flora and fauna! We learn about edible, poisonous, invasive and native plants, and plant and take home powerful indoor air-cleaning plants. We also plant beautiful natives for our struggling native insects and care for amazing animals as we learn to be good stewards of this earth.

Young writers develop and write their own original stories and graphic novels with a published writer and graphic novelist! Through the workshop process, children share their work in a supportive space and learn how to give and receive thoughtful feedback while exploring core elements of plot, character development, and the mechanics of a coherent story. Each child leaves the workshop with a story or comic in hand.

In this class geared for children in a French immersion or dual language program, children experience French as a living language scaffolded with academic support tailored to their needs. Children create their own beautiful pottery in this fun, hands-on class. Using classic hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab construction, children produce several functional and abstract projects to take home, applying different textures and exploring a variety of glazing techniques, including painting, dipping, and staining, before the finished work is fired in the kiln.

Learn to code with off-screen robotics, assemble simple circuits and design and create your own robotics projects! Through hands-on experiments and collaborative projects, children gain a foundational understanding of robotics and chemistry and solve engineering design challenges. Along the way, children learn about the Scientific Method, using a controlled variable to study the concepts of elasticity and viscosity.

Through weekly hands-on experiments and quirky projects, children are introduced to the wonders of simple machines, chemical reactions, and geological investigations. Children log their hypotheses and findings in their very own scientific journals, learning valuable problem-solving skills while also having fun! Children participate in team activities such as building a Rube Goldberg machine, growing cool crystals, or studying Leonardo da Vinci’s gravity-defying flying machines. They also get the chance to make and take home cool, unique projects that illustrate properties of light, color, density and more.

In this fun, artistic class, children study and create a range of comic-related artwork. They look at the rising cultural phenomena of manga, focusing on the unique Japanese drawing style to create characters. Children also learn about character development, storyline, and the artwork created to bring classic comic book stories to life. Using a range of materials, including gouache, watercolor, pencil, and more, children create their unique masterpieces. This class encompasses both a love for art and a love for books!

Players of all levels can take the next step in improving their soccer skills! In this high-energy class, players are exposed to the fundamentals of soccer, including dribbling, passing and shooting. A French-speaking PSG Academy coach leads the players in coordination drills, essential for motor skills development on and off the field, while they also enjoy the social benefits of playing a team sport.

Crafty Gabby is back! In this session, children learn how to make pajama pants. Skills that are taught include: coordinating colors and patterns; placing patterns onto fabric; pinning and cutting; and machine sewing. Children also work on a hand embroidery side project throughout the sessions. All supplies are included. Each child takes home pajama pants and an embroidery.

Children embark on a journey as Demigods that test their mettle and prove their heroism in this action-packed class that uses stories from Greek mythology, classic literature and contemporary favorites to inspire children’s passion and creativity. The session follows a full narrative arc in which children train and learn the ways of heroes past in order to stop an opposing force and complete their mission. The session culminates in a Quest adventure where training is put to the test in a live-action journey through a mythological world of the children’s own creation.

Private Music Lessons (Piano, Ukelele, and Guitar)

Aftercare is a supervised after-school space designed for busy families and offered to students in Pre-K -Grade 5 at the main campus from 3:00-6:30 PM and to students at the early childhood Annex (2’s and 3’s) from 3:00-6:00 PM. It is a great place for your child to unwind after school, socialize, and enjoy free play. Aftercare is for students who are NOT registered in Enrichment Courses for the day. If you need additional care after or before an Enrichment Course, please select Extra Care by the hour for the term. Pricing varies by days selected.
